As Q3 comes to an end. Here’s a bit of an overview of what Black Sugar has been up to.
We continue our residency at Smorgasburg Los Angeles. Proud to say we have been a part of it since its conception in 2016. This past quarter was a bit of a challenge due to this longer than usual heat wave. Fortunately, we had Ice Cream Alley to cool us down for much of that heat wave. On August 28th, Smorgasburg Los Angeles hosted its annual BBQ Day. BBQ day is the busiest day for Smorgasburg and hosts amazing barbecue vendors from throughout the nation. If you missed it, you’ll need to check it out next year! It’s an event that you have to experience!
On September 17, Black Sugar was one of only two invited foodservice purveyors for the “One 805 Live” in Santa Barbara, CA.
Taking place on a private oceanfront estate in Santa Barbara, this year’s One805LIVE! Event offered access to everyone who wanted to support our First Responders - from budget concert-goer, to VIP. The All-star line-up - many of whom have not played in Santa Barbara recently - included Danny Seraphine of Chicago, Elliot Easton of The Cars, Wally Palmar of The Romantics, David Pack of Ambrosia, Dishwalla, Glen Phillips and Glenn Annie. There was even a surprise appearance by the legendary Alan Parsons O.B.E.
One805 is a permanent 501 (c) (3) corporation raising funds for all three First Responder groups-Fire, Police & Sheriff. One805 helps provide the additional needs that are not included in their budgets. In addition One805 has taken on a new initiative to fund and manage the provision of counseling services for every firefighter in Santa Barbara County-and their families.
Of the multiple Private events we catered this quarter, all worth mentioning. There are two that I would like will share with you. One was the beautiful wedding vow renewal ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. Ortega. The location and scenery was that of a fairytale. The event was held on the beautiful grounds of “Croad Vineyards” in Paso Robles, CA. We were surrounded by vineyards on rolling hills. Family and friends gathered on the terrace relaxing, telling stories and sharing moments of laughter and love. As everyone gathered to partake in the ceremony, Black Sugar Rib Company went to work. I am extremely happy to say that the Ortega’s were more than pleased with our service, setup and food. As this was a very special day for them, we made sure to knock it out of the park for them. Thank you Ortega’s for allowing us to participate in such a special occasion for you two.
The second event I would like to share with you is of a longtime client, the Renterias’. Black Sugar was asked to cater the 50th birthday of Mr. Renteria. Once again, they went all out: two different bands; top shelf drinks, and of course Black Sugars signature Whole Alligator! This was another event for the books.
